Killing The $0.60 SEPTA Transfer; Birthing A Second Full Fare
SEPTA Watch has the news about this well below the radar development.
Update - As I'm reading over SEPTA Watch's post and noticing the reference to my brother's post, I should note that while I don't have the ability to write my anger down as clearly and easily as my brother does, I whole heartedly agree with his sentiment:
Of course, this is the same agency that refuses to sell tokens at every location, that refuses to give change for a five dollar bill, that refuses to shift to smart-cards.
Fuck SEPTA: if this plan goes through, Philadelphians should do more than boycott the system. They should make it impossible to run the system itself. They should takeover the headquarters at Market Street, making it impossible for anyone to enter or exit the building. And City Council is obliged to help us: SEPTA (not to mention Harrisburg) has fucked this city over one too many times, and an accountability moment is coming.
I've had my own personal problems with SEPTA, such as in this post of mine (which happened again just the other day with the heavy rains again) and so personally, I think if SEPTA wants to raise fares in some ride-by-night manner, they should think first about the service they already provide and how much the people are already dissatisfied with it and how a fare adjustment like this might just be the straw to break the camel's back and throw us all over the edge.
As Brendan says, "an accountability moment is coming."
He's right.
